Toluca Lake, CA (September 21, 2011) – “Wheelers, Dealers, Pucks & Bucks: A Rocking History of Roller Hockey International” by sportswriter Richard Graham is the first complete accounting of the professional inline hockey league that exploded onto the scene in the early 1990s and crashed by the end of that decade. Full of thrills, spills, body checks and hilarious never-heard-before stories, the book tells the story of a niche sport and a professional league that dared to dream big.

Graham has collected behind-the-scenes stories that illustrate episodes of shortsightedness by the team owners and league founders, player pranks, the recruitment strategy of a winning team, clever tricks referees used to get paid, the idiosyncrasies of rabid fans, and the reasons for the league’s ultimate downfall. “As a former RHI team owner and a current executive for the 16-time NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers, I still relate experiences from those six seasons in the craziest yet-I-still-cannot-believe-it-is-gone league,” recalls Jeanie Buss in the book’s foreword.

The 340-page book includes photos and illustrations, and readers will learn which RHI team owner posed for Playboy, which team’s logo Sports Illustrated described as “a malevolent vacuum-cleaner attachment,” why fans were nearly ejected from the Oakland Skates’ arena for celebrating a hat trick, and more.
